Headway Devon is a local charity dedicated to improving life after brain injury.
We provide essential services across Devon and Torbay for people with acquired brain injuries, their families and carers.
Who we are
Headway Devon exists to ensure that when a person’s life is turned upside down by brain injury, they get the help and support they need and deserve.
Brain injury has many causes but some of the most common are head injury, stroke, brain tumour, and illnesses like meningitis.
Headway Devon is the local acquired brain injury specialists and we have been providing services for people with brain injuries for 20 years.
We support people with brain injuries to come to terms with what has happened and overcome their disabilities, as well as providing support and advice to their families and carers and training and information for local professionals.
Vision Statement: Rebuilding lives after acquired brain injury.
Mission Statement: Headway Devon provides support and information for people who have been affected by acquired brain injury.

Community support services
Our Community Support teamwork one-to-one with people in their own homes and communities.
Our specially trained Community Support Workers provide individually tailored care to enable people with brain injuries to live happier and more independent lives.
Our Community Support Workers are experienced in supporting people to access employment and education, providing help with housing issues, and supporting people with tasks such as budgeting and shopping.
Because every client is different, every Community Support programme is different and designed to meet the individual’s particular needs. In the past year, as well as enabling clients to live independently in their own homes, our Community Support Workers have supported clients during fishing trips, on hospital visits, to attend college courses and on social trips.
Centre services
We run day centres for adults with acquired brain injuries in Exeter, Honiton and South Devon.
At our centres, people with brain injuries are able to meet new people and take part in activities to help them relearn lost skills and develop new ones. Our centres can also provide valuable respite for carers.
All of our centres are different, but all offer a varied programme of activities including arts and crafts, board games and exercises to improve thinking skills.
The work that goes on at our centres is long-term, and progress for individual clients may take years, not months. But this never stops clients and staff from looking forward to a bright future.
Support for families and carers
At Headway Devon we recognise the vital role that carers perform and we are committed to ensuring that carers feel well-equipped to perform their role. Our staff team are available on the phone to offer support, information and advice when needed.
All of our services offer valuable respite opportunities for carers. Our long history of working with people with brain injuries and our specialist skills mean that the person you care for will be in safe hands, leaving you free to carry out chores, spend time with friends and family, or simply unwind.
We also run carers drop-in sessions in Exeter. These sessions are run by a Manager at Headway Devon and offer information, support and advice for carers who support someone with an acquired brain injury. The sessions are free to attend with complimentary tea and coffee and run on the first Tuesday of the month from 10 am-12 pm at the XCentre on Commercial Road in Exeter. There is no need to register to attend, just come along on the day.

Donate
Every year Headway Devon supports over 500 people with brain injuries across the county. All of our services rely on fundraising to ensure that people with brain injuries receive the quality of help and support that they need and deserve. Every donation is very gratefully received and, as a small local charity, your support can make a real difference as we strive to help pick up the pieces of lives broken by brain injury.
If you would like to make a one-off donation or a regular monthly donation, please contact your account manager.
