WELCOME TO HEADS2MINDS
The Story
I was diagnosed with Bipolar in 2003 and experienced mainly psychotic manic episodes. Though my experiences have been dark and challenging it has provided me with a passion which fuels me to help others everyday.
I tell the story of how my condition has affected family, relationships, work and other aspects of my life through talks with school, colleges, universities, employment forums, the police and other various groups. We have had some amazing feedback and truly positive comments, which only fuels my goal of reaching out to and inspiring others.
Hi, I’m Liz
From my lived experience and passion, I’ve created Heads2minds charity in order to raise mental health awareness and offer hope & support. I’m extremely passionate about Mental health and wellbeing and by sharing my story I want to help reduce the stigma & judgement that is still very much attached to mental health disorders. Heads2minds also offer Mental Health First Aid and Well-being Training, mentoring for children and adults and alternative support & therapies. Please take a look around the website. We want to make a difference in this world and create a world full of hope and positive minds.

Art Therapy
The benefits of being creative have been known for some time, and it is enjoyed around the world. Being able to switch off the logical side of the brain can reduce stress and anxiety, and help us feel calmer and more focused. Art Therapy is based on this principle, and is regarded as an effective type of psychotherapy. We can express what we are feeling internally without fear of judgement, or repercussions.
Art therapy can involve a range of activities such as drawing, painting, or sculpture. It is suitable for any age, and any ability. The objective is to relax, and find comfort in creating something that reflects how you feel inside. It can help to get in touch with our inner self, and understand more about our identity. It can be used to help deal with many different issues such as grief, depression, chronic illness or addiction.
Animal Assisted Therapy
Owning a pet has many benefits. You always have someone who is happy to see you come home. If you need a pick me up they can give you a cuddle. And of course stroking an animal can feel very relaxing, wether it’s a cat, dog, or even a spider. Some people do not have the chance to own an animal, and this is where animal-assisted therapy comes in. It has been shown that animals can be very therapeutic for a range of reasons. They can elevate the mood of elderly people who are lonely, or help people with mental illnesses such as Alzheimer’s.
Guide dogs are an example of animals being used to help a specific illness: blindness. Dogs in particular have been used in the past for a range of purposes, for example they can even be trained to warn if someone is having an epileptic fit.
Colour Therapy
Colour therapy, or chromotherapy, is based on the idea that different colours can evoke different moods and can be used to affect our mental and physical wellbeing. Attaching meanings to colours can be traced back a long way all over the world. In Egypt, healers wore blue breastplates to signify their sacredness. In Greece, gold clothes signified holiness.
Each colour has a different wavelength, and therefore its own particular energy: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The human body has 7 different chakras or energy centres, and to have a sense of wellbeing they need to be balanced. If they are not, colour therapy can be used to rebalance/stimulate certain energies.
Hypotherapy
Sessions can be delivered either online or face to face and donations are to the Heads2minds charity
Hypnotherapy is one of the safest, quickest and most effective forms of treatment for the majority of psychological and emotional challenges. Positive aspects of hypnosis include a much more profound level of relaxation with a reduction in stress levels.
“Hypnotherapy was one of the therapies that helped me address my confidence and overcome the fear of public speaking. It also really helped me give up smoking and reduce anxiety levels. It’s all about empowering people by giving them the necessary skills and tools to move forward in their lives. Helping people reduce negative behaviours including addictions, excessive drinking, sugar, poor eating and sleepless nights and improving confidence and self esteem.” Liz Rotherham
The therapy gets to the root of the problem and helps the person to relax in a safe environment either at home online or within a safe place located in the Colchester area in Essex.
All initial sessions are free and include a health and wellbeing consultation to enable me to offer you a bespoke session.
Everyone perceives the world in a different way based on their experiences, genetics and the people they meet. Having a mentor is an opportunity for children and young adults to build a relationship with someone who can offer them insights and guidance in new, fun and caring ways.
Mentors can serve a range of purposes; it will depend on what a mentee needs or is looking for. They have time and skills that others may not be able to currently give. They will also have a range of interests that a mentee hasn’t had the opportunity to discover yet, and it could give them a new direction or sense of purpose.
They can help their mentees grow academically. They may be able to explain things in different ways, or have personal experiences which helps them relate to their mentees and find alternative ways for them to learn. It could also be a chance to inspire mentees to aim higher. New experiences can open a mind to opportunities that haven’t considered before.
A mentor can also help an individual grow to be more resilient, confident and aware. Trying new hobbies, or even simply having more contact with nature can sometimes be enough to feel more grounded in life. Mentees will also be able to offer advice on what has got them through tough times, with no particular agenda. This can positively impact many aspects of a young persons life, including their behaviour at school.
Mentors can also be viewed as simply an outlet: someone to talk to who is not necessarily involved in their current situation, who can listen without judgment and maybe offer a different take on things from time to time. The could involve just having a hot chocolate together. A chance to offload and feel seen. Or it could be a walk in the park with a mentor’s dog.
