How one couple saved £20,000 on their dream wedding
So, you’ve got the ring and you’ve chosen the date, but do you have the budget for your dream wedding?
The cost of getting hitched has hit an all-time high with the average price of a wedding in the UK now costing £30,355, according to a recent survey by Bridebook.co.uk*. The National Wedding Survey 2018 found that the cost of getting married is up by 12% from the previous year.
It isn’t necessarily that Brits are being more extravagant with their choices, more than the cost of a wedding has risen as the survey revealed that supplier costs have increased by an average of 12% every year.
One bride and groom who were worried about the cost of their wedding thought ahead and managed to save themselves £20,000 on their dream winter wedding. Debbie and Bill Lightbown tied the knot on 21st December 2018 at the Bankes Arms in Studland, Dorset, and sourced most of their wedding supplies through an online business community where people can exchange their businesses’ spare capacity in exchange for goods and services, BBX.
Through their family holiday home business, Jane’s Places – www.janesplaces.co.uk, Debbie had gained credit on BBX by letting out spare vacancies to other members of BBX in exchange for BBX pounds, which she was able to spend on supplies for their wedding. Debbie said: “We knew we could get some items for the wedding through BBX, but we didn’t realise just how much money we could save ourselves.”
Following Bill’s romantic proposal in September 2018, they wasted no time and started planning their dream wedding. Both thought they would have to wait until the following year to be able to afford the wedding, but by sourcing almost everything through BBX they managed to get married in just three months.
The couple secured their wedding planner, wedding rings, dress and suits, wedding car, makeup artist, luxury marquee, bar, food, tables and chairs, PA system, magician, plates, and glassware all through the online business community.
Debbie explains: “BBX made it happen much sooner. We had a few dates in mind and thought why not get on and do it! We would have had to wait 15 months if we didn’t have BBX and it was so special to be able to have our wedding at Christmas with all of our family and friends!”
