FAA Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification
When somebody becomes unwell or injured at work, having someone who knows what to do can make an important difference.
The FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is a practical qualification designed to give learners the knowledge and competence required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.
Where a workplace first aid needs assessment identifies the need for an Emergency First Aider, this qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

What Will You Learn?
During the course, learners develop practical first aid knowledge and skills covering:
- The role and responsibilities of a first aider
- How to safely assess an emergency situation
- Conducting scene and primary surveys
- Adult CPR
- Using the recovery position
- Responding to someone experiencing a seizure
- Recognising and helping a casualty who is choking
- Dealing with external bleeding
- Recognising and responding to shock
- First aid for minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters and nosebleeds
- Responding to minor burns and scalds
Practical, Hands-On First Aid Training
This isn’t simply a theory-based course.
Learners are assessed through practical demonstrations and realistic scenarios, allowing them to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to respond to workplace first aid situations.
Assessment takes place throughout the course, with learners required to successfully complete each scenario to achieve the qualification.
Course Details
Qualification: FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) / Award in Emergency First Aid at Work at SCQF Level 6
Guided Learning: 6 hours
Total Qualification Time: 7 hours
Class Size: Maximum of 12 learners per trainer/assessor
Assessment: Practical demonstration and related oral questions
Qualification Validity: 3 years
The Health and Safety Executive strongly recommends that qualified first aiders undertake annual refresher training.
Who Is It Suitable For?
This qualification is particularly relevant for workplaces where a first aid needs assessment has identified the requirement for an Emergency First Aider at Work.
It can also be suitable for people responsible for providing first aid in other environments, including voluntary and community groups.
Learners must be aged 14 or over, although they cannot assume responsibility as a workplace first aider until they are 16.
Due to the practical assessment, learners must also be physically able to demonstrate the required first aid procedures independently, including performing CPR on a manikin at floor level.
A Recognised, Regulated Qualification
The qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA), an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and Qualifications Scotland Accreditation.
Training and assessment are delivered in accordance with the current Resuscitation Council UK Guidelines.
